C.A.T.S. Celebrates its 20th Year!

This year Jackie and C.A.T.S celebrate 20 years of animal rescue
It all began in 1989 when Jackie rescued her first cat. At that time, she lived at Nethershire an area within Shiregreen, Sheffield. Unable to pay the vet bill for the injured cat she had found Jackie took to the streets selling second hand clothes to raise funds.
From these small beginnings an animal charity was born. Jackie named this fledgling charity Animal Welfare. With the support of her parents and partner, Alan, Jackie was able to continue raising funds and rescuing cats.

Jackie later moved into Council accommodation, the current home of the sanctuary. After five years of fund raising, Jackie decided it was time to apply to the charity commissioners to become a registered charity. On 18th January 1995 Animal Welfare became a registered charity with a new name; the Cat Abuse Treatment Society (C.A.T.S).
The rescued cats now live in purpose built sanctuary accommodation that used to be Jackie’s back garden.

During the years, Jackie has lived through many hardships. She not only lost both of her parents but also Alan her partner and soul mate.
People who know Jackie will know that there is nothing she wouldn’t do for the sake of the animals. Now in her 60’s Jackie, with the help of her volunteers, is taking on the task of working with some of our new technology, e.g. the internet, to reach out to a whole new generation of people.
